On this day (February 21) in the year 1849, the following notice appeared in the "St. Catharines Journal" (Ontario, Canada): - - - - - - - - Notice.--Two Daguerreotypes having been taken from Mr. Powelson's rooms in this place, any person returning them will receive $3, and have no questions asked. * * * * * * * * I recently obtained a copy of the following publication and thought it worth a mention: "Madison County Heritage" No. 19 (1994) The entire issue is devoted to a 64 page article by Hugh C. Humphreys, "Agitate! Agitate! Agitate! The Great Cazenovia Fugitive Slave Law Convention and its rare Daguerreotype." The article gives extensive background to the daguerreotype taken at the Convention. The daguerreotype depicts Frederick Douglass, Gerrit Smith, and others.
