THE DAGUERREOTYPE: AN ARCHIVE OF SOURCE TEXTS, GRAPHICS, AND EPHEMERA

The research archive of Gary W. Ewer regarding the history of the daguerreotype

On this day (March 18) in the year 1850, the following notice appeared in the "Boston Daily Evening Transcript": - - - - - - - Mr Mayall, formerly of Philadelphia, has a very attractive Daguerrian Gallery in the Strand, where the life like portraits of many well-known individuals are daily inspected. Among Mr Mayall's latest daguerreotype portraits is a really splendid picture of Davenport, as Farmer Trueman, in the comedy of "Fashion." This has been so much admired that it is to be copied on stone, and will no doubt have an extensive sale. -------------------------------------------------------------- 03-18-99
