On this day (June 24) in the year 1843, the following notice appeared in "Niles' National Register" (Baltimore) Vol. 14, No. 117 (24 June 1843): - - - - - - - DAGUERREOTYPE. Mr. Whitney, in writing to a friend in this city, says that "Clinton, the chemist, has within a few days past succeeded in fixing (by an after process) the colors of flesh, drapery, flowers, &c. with all the strength and vividness of nature.
