On this day (October 4) in the year 1853, the following item appeared in the "Boston Daily Evening Transcript": - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ARRESTED BY MEANS OF A DAGUERREOTYPE. A few days since a man named William Allen, who had been boarding at Market Hotel, Portland street, left without paying his board. The landlord on examining his trunk, found a number of coining tools and his miniature. The latter was given to a police officer, who succeeded by means of it in arresting him, and he was committed for trial.
